A Paragliding Experience is exhilarating, exciting and the next best thing to soaring through the skies in free flight. Our fun, full-day paragliding taster will not only give you a better insight into this thriving sport, it will probably leave you hungry for more!
The experience, which takes place on a slope suited to low-level flights, begins with a welcome, introduction and temporary membership of the BHPA, the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association. You'll be allocated a kit and safety equipment, then head off to the site with your Paraglide instructor. Spend the next few hours learning, practicing and gradually increasing your low-level flights under the guidance of your instructor. And by the end of the day, if all goes well, you'll accomplish a solo flight up to 50 feet above ground level.

AGENDA
- 10.00am: Welcome, introduction talk and sign up as temporary member of the BHPA.
- 11.00am: Kit/equipment allocation. Walk or drive to site.
- 11.30: Introduction to the equipment, launch demos by instructors, equipment checks etc.
- 12.30: Hands on time! Learn how to clip in, inflate the paraglider, keep it overhead and land.
- 1.30pm onwards: Gradually increase the height of low-level flights, moving up the slope as the group, weather and your ability dictates - if all goes well, to a solo flight at 50ft above the ground.
- End: Finish time is usually between 5-6pm, but is dependent upon the weather and the rest of the group.
Additional Information
IMPORTANT - PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS
- Please bring a packed lunch.
- Wear suitable outdoor clothing and ankle-supporting boots.
- To participate, your fitness level should be that required for moderate hill-walking. Participants should have no pre-existing injuries which make falling over on grass or running short distances problematic.
- You'll be sent a medical questionnaire to self-certify your fitness level. Over 55's should have the questionnaire countersigned by their GP.
LOCATION AND AVAILABILITY
- The Paragliding Experience is available in Kirby Stephen, Cumbria on Saturdays and Mondays throughout the year.
SPECTATORS
- Spectators are welcome but will have to travel to the site independently. They should also be fit enough for moderate hill walking.
PLEASE NOTE
- You will be offered a choice of dates to rebook if poor weather conditions lead to the cancellation of Paragliding Experience.
